Sons of Fortune

I had the fortune of reading Sons of Fortune, which turned out to be a really-really gripping book. Gripping it was, certainly, but not without being highly implausible. Such a series of coincides is quite impossible, or maybe possible in a few Hindi movies. But it was gripping.
The book starts with the life of four people, who are not in any way connected. After marriage, both couples have chidren on the same day. One couple has twins, who are separated at birth, on purpose, by a nurse. They grow up without knowing each other or meeting each other. They even fall in love with the same Girl.
Both contest elections at their respective schools and then at their colleges as well.
One becomes a Vietname war hero and receives the Medal of Honour. The other studies law and joins Alexander, Dupont and Bell as an attorney.
Soon after, the attorney turns politicians and wins his first election. A series of events follow, and they finally contest the election for Governor in the state of Connecticut. One as a Democrat, the other as a Republican. A false charge of murder is levelled against one and the attorney comes to his rescue. The attorney then has a car crash and is in need of blood and has a very rare blood group. He gets it from... what do you think?
Gripping, yes, but implausible.

Age

"How old are you" I ask. A reply in years, usually alot less than a hundred, is given. I would have given a similar reply, until my science tutor put a very interesting idea in my head; We've been here for trillions of years. The atoms that make up our body have been in existence for God knows how long. A Carbon atom in your arm might have been part of a dinosaurs ages ago or a piece of shit. Scary. I don't have much to say about it, but I found it pretty darned interesting.
I knew about the conservation of mass and all that, but I had never pondered about this. Yes, it is insignificant and boring, but I found it pretty interesting.

Victory!

We (DPS RKP) came first overall at MSM Matrix-Eco fest. Gudi and I came second in Web Designing. It seems we've made a habit of coming second in Web D. Coming second is good, but we always seem to miss First place by a whisker. Doesn't matter. I was unable to attend the prize distribution for no good reason, but I just didn't.
My result is out, and is nothing short of disappointing. Really. I've lost marks in my 'key' areas, according to KSTG (Kaumudi Sharma The Great). I will have to work harder next time, according to my Bio teacher. What I certainly shall do is this: Brush aside my problems and move forward!
We also had the scholar badge today. Chona was at her stupid best. She called Mr. Sanjay Gupta Sunil Gupta and said lots of stupid things. She came on stage and said "I am speechless. I have nothing to say" and then proceeded to say alot. And I mean alot. She droned on for a whole 15 minutes. The coke guy (Sanjay Gupta) was alright, though.
S'all for now.

The neighbour

On friday I had my neighbour's son over. A truly forgettable experience. He wasn't troublesome, he just wasn't there. Upon his arrival, I greeted him with a 'hullo' and a warm handshake. In reply, something was mumbled. The conversation that ensued was totally one-sided. This is part of the conversation.
Dhruv: Hullo! How are you?
Neighbour: (something mumbled)
Dhruv: Which school do you go to?
Neighbour: Apeejay
Dhruv: You're in the 6th right?
Neighbour: Yes.
Dhruv: Do you like playing computer games?
Neighbour: (Some incomprehensible form of assent)
Dhruv: Would you like to play UT?
Neighbour: Yes.
Dhruv: Or Fifa?
Neighbour: Yes
Dhruv: Which one?
Neighbour: Anyone.
Dhruv: You must choose one.
Neighbour: Anything.
Dhruv: C'mon.
Neighbour: You choose.
Dhruv: Alright, Fifa.
Neighbour: Yes.
Such was the conversation. I seated the dumb guy on a chair and started Fifa for 'em. I had him off my hands for a whole 15 minutes. I had been hoping he'd at least play for an hour or two. But, it was not to be.
I was once again entrusted the task of entertaining him. I went through a list of games that we could play, and he finally agreed to Ludo. Ludo is a game, if you can call it that, which is excrucaitingly boring and childish. He enjoyed it. I played with him for one painful hour. Then, he felt hungry and slept on the couch. As he slept, I surfed the 'net' and his parents arrived to pick him up. Thank God.
S'all for now.

The examinations of DPS RK Puram have finally come to an end and je soulage or I feel relieved. Today was French and it was pretty easy, barring the comprehension. I wanted to blog today, but unofrtunately my neighbour has left his son at my place. I'm supposed to entertain him, and his breathing down my neck. I apologize from the bottom of by heart for not posting today. But tomorrow, I will write a detailed report of my time with this brat.
